As the National Printing Press (SOPECAM) invites some ten candidates confirm colors and emblems on their ballot papers, the race for the 2011 presidential election in Cameroon seems to take a different twist. Out of a total of fifty-two (52) applications for candidature received by ELECAM, seventeen (17) have been rejected pending a ruling by the Supreme Court acting as the Constitutional Court. The motives for reject range from unpaid taxes, five million francs deposit to failure to by some candidates to meet with the condition of staying for a period of 12 uninterrupted months in the country before depositing their candidature. The Supreme Court has up to Septembre 21st to confirm or to rule against these irregularities .
Official campaigns are expected to begin on Septembre the 25th.
