While results for the recruitment of 25000 young graduates announced by the government are highly awaited by thousands of jobless applicants, the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms have lunched an online census of public agents excluding those of the judiciary and the armed forces.
This exercise is one in a series of highly acclaimed measures by government to modernize the Public Service and cleanse the system from fake workers and control the massive fraud affecting it. A series of censuses have been done since 2005 leading to the flushing out of hundreds of ghost workers from the system. Millions of francs CFA have been recovered since then.

The current exercise has exposed a great challenge facing Cameroonians - access to the Internet. Most of the hundreds of thousands of Cameroonian Public agents would have to lineup in front of cyber cafes to fill the census forms online. However, this presents a huge opportunity to operators of cyber cafes who will witness a tremendous increase in daily incomes.

How much does it cost a government to modernize its public service?
I think a lot of effort needs to be made to transform a huge an complex decades old bureaucratic mechinery into a modern computerised system while preserving important records.
The public service has done a wonderful job as one can be counted without stress avoiding cuing.I say technology is fast advancing in our Fatherland Cameroon.
